Apple picking season is just around the corner. You could use your apples for the standard delicious treats like apple pie or turnovers, or just enjoy them as is. These Oven Dried Apple Chips are a great snack and super easy to make. Inspired by the fuji brand apple chips you can find in stores.
These chips are good with any kind of apple you have around. Once dried they are crisp and sweet! The only problem with these chips is that they take a while too cook. Its hard to resist eating half the pan when you go to flip them. They make a great after school snack!
Ingredients for apple chips:
- 2 apples , peeled and sliced (I used granny smith and fuji but other types like honey-crisp or gala would work great!)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
Tips & Tricks:
- Apples: Make sure to cut the apples at an even thickness so they will bake consistently. You can use a mandolin to make this easier.
- Core: Use a melon baller or a knife to remove the apple core or middle before you bake them if you want to make sure no seeds or crunchy bits are included.
- Baking: Flip your apples half way through the cooking time. If you notice at 2 hours that they still seem soft leave them for a few extra minutes. Keep a close eye on them though since they will burn quickly if left unattended.
- Storage: Once the chips are fully cool you can store them in an air tight bag for 2-4 days. Moisture is the enemy in this case, if they get wet they will become very soggy.
