Superbowl Sunday is just a few days away and every year I have to make something that is shaped like a football naturally. This party cheese football is a great way to celebrate and add some flair to any cheese board. It soft and flavourful with little pops of jalapeño in every bite. Plus let’s be honest who doesn’t love something that is covered in bacon!
Ingredients:
- 16 oz cream cheese softened
- 8 oz medium or sharp cheddar grated
- 1/3 cup chopped green onion divided
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/3 chopped jalapeno pepper
- 4 slices crispy cooked bacon
- 1 slice mozzarella cheese
- Optional chopped green onion
Tips & Tricks:
- Cream Cheese: Make sure that you take your cream cheese out of the fridge an hour before you start this recipe or it will be too hard to properly combine everything together.
- Bacon: Chop the bacon strips into fine little pieces so that you can easily roll the football in it. You could also add some chopped bacon to the cheese mixture for some added bacon flavour. Pre cooked bacon will also work for this.
- Making the football shape: Line a bowl big enough to hold the cheese mixture with plastic wrap, leaving extra plastic wrap hanging over the sides. Once your cheese is very compactly pushed into the bowl you can fold the sides in encasing the cheese in the wrap. Carefully remove your wrapped cheese from the bowl and begin to shape the dome using your hands into a football shape. When you are satisfied remove the plastic wrap and place the cheese on your desired serving tray.
- Serve with: Cracker, pretzels, veggies, chips and more.
- Storage: Wrap your cheese ball back up in plastic wrap and keep in your fridge for 3-5 days. Cheese will start to mold and be very obvious when it has begun to spoil.
